According to this other post
http://www.9rays.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1036&highlight=backbrush the dci.backbrush property is ignored and only backcolor is respected. However, I wonder if there are plans to support setting that property in the future? That would be very helpful.

Specifically, rather than a solid background, I want to paint a linergradient as the background.

But the best way for these purposes is usage of Stylist or background image.
FlyGrid don't use background brushes in all cases (to fill background of each cell for example) and trying to minimize drawing to increase cell's refresh speed.
